Field Service Engineer – Midlands (M6 corridor)

The Field Service Engineer role is vitally important to the service department as you will be responsible for diagnosing faults, repairing and maintaining a variety of CNC machine tools.  It’s both a technical and customer facing role so you’ll need to be comfortable talking to customers and working in their workshops to address machine issues.  While you’ll take direction from the service managers at our head office, it’s a largely autonomous role and you’ll have to be confident using your own initiative to find solutions.

Key duties and responsibilities

  • Reporting to the Service Manager and Technical Director
  • Provide onsite repair and preventative maintenance of a wide range of CNC machine tools including vertical and horizontal machining centres, turning centres and sliding head lathes
  • Primarily attend customer sites in the UK including overnight stays
  • Undertake occasional trips to the rest of Europe
  • Diagnose faults, repair or replace equipment
  • Upgrade existing hardware and software
  • Be flexible with working hours in order to meet customer expectations
  • Provide occasional training to customers both onsite and at company headquarters

Previous experience

  • At least 2 years’ experience on controls as a Field Service Engineer
  • Knowledge of Fanuc and Siemens controls is vital and  knowledge of Heidenhain, Mitsubishi control systems would be an advantage.
  • Experience in CNC machine tool service/maintenance
  • Experience in fault finding on CNC controls
  • Ability to understand PLC/PMC interface
  • Knowledge of SERVO and spindle drives and motors
  • Ability to read electrical drawings
  • Computer literate

Package

  • 40 hours / week basice plus overtime as required
  • Pay is negotiable depending on experience
