MTDCNC.com were very impressed when they came to review the new Dugard X5-800 heavy duty gantry type VMC, watch the video underneath.

Technology and stability

With an 800mm table, 800mm X axis, 900mm Y axis and 18,000rpm spindle, the Dugard X5-800 is most definitely an impressive machine.  The A axis and C axis on the table are driven both sides by Kessler motors for extra stability, and as an added bonus both the C axis and spindle are direct drive.  It’s an HSK63 spindle with through spindle coolant and as well as a spindle chiller.  32 tools are standard but the tool options are immense, going up to 64 and 120 by using the optional dual tool drums, giving you much more flexibility.  It comes with floodwash, laser probing for tool setting and tool measuring as well as workpiece probing – all in all a very well equipped piece of kit.

Premium quality machine tool

The X5-800 is a gantry style machine, with the Y axis supported on both sides of the gantry.  It has 2 linear ways on either side of the gantry so you get total stability.  The concertina roof is a handy feature as it moves back for loading, swarf conveyor is standard and evacuation of swarf is tremendously easy.  It’s available with either a Heidenhain TNC640 or Seimens 840D controls.  Weighing in at 20 tonnes, and with1300kg maximum work table load it’s a very heavy duty machine built to tackle the more difficult components.
